Land Acknowledgement for Highland Village Museum, Iona, Nova Scotia
We acknowledge that Cape Breton Island, known in Mi'kmaw as Unama'ki, the Land of Fog, is situated on the traditional territory of the L'nu (Mi'kmaq) people. This land has been, and continues to be, a sacred place for the L'nu, who have lived in harmony with its waters, forests, and landscapes since time immemorial.
As we gather here, we honour the L'nu people’s enduring relationship with this land, their stewardship, and their continued contributions to the cultural and spiritual life of the region.
We are privileged to work alongside our L'nu Advisory Group, whose wisdom and guidance enrich our understanding and strengthen our connections to this land and its people.
In the spirit of reconciliation, we commit ourselves to learning from L'nu knowledge and traditions while working together to build a future that respects, uplifts, and values the voices of the L'nu and all Indigenous communities.
Wela’lioq. Tapadh leibh. Thank you.
