The author of a new book about the Back to the Land movement in Nova Scotia will be giving a talk at Baile nan Gàidheal / Highland Village in Iona on Thursday, July 16 at 7PM.
Chris Murphy is a retired sociologist whose recent work focuses on the story of hippies, draft dodgers, homesteaders, and seekers who came to the province to make a new life in the 1960s and 1970s. Based on dozens of interviews with back-to-the-landers across the region, his book has been described as ‘timely, candid, and often hilarious”
In this event, Murphy will relate the history of this unique migration and its impact on rural parts of the province through selected readings and a short film produced by his bother Peter Murphy.
