We are pleased to announce that Stòras a’ Bhaile will be returning to the Baile nan Gàidheal this summer from August 21 to 25, 2023. For more information or to register e-mail Shannon MacMullin (shay.macmullin@novascotia.ca).
Stòras a’ Bhaile is a four day Gaelic immersion folk-life school for advanced Nova Scotia Gaelic learners. It features the traditional foods, music, dance, stories and songs of Gaelic Nova Scotia. This program distinguishes itself by hands-on language activities and social time conducted entirely through the Gaelic language in Highland Village’s historic buildings.
Stòras a’ Bhaile Objectives
Some of the components and objectives of the Stòras a’ Bhaile program include:
- Exploring and sharing Gaelic arts and folkways indigenous to Nova Scotia
- Reinforcing Gaelic folklife skills and language through in a social environment
- Identifying, exploring and and experiencing Gaelic cultural expressions relevant to Nova Scotia
- Celebrating and sharing Nova Scotia’s Gaelic traditions as a social resource
Stòras a’ Bhaile brings together native Gaelic Speakers, Gaelic learners, and ambassadors of Nova Scotia Gaelic culture. Some of the immersion topics include language arts, music, dance, demonstrations of traditional food preparation and farm work, and story-telling. As a program designed around social interaction as a medium for learning the Stòras a’ Bhaile program is not structured or delivered as a formal class. Its format accepts all learners – regardless of Gaelic skills – who wish to have an immersion experience by way of cultural transmission in a social environment.
