Wednesday, September 3 - Milling Frolic
Fresh webs of wool taken from the loom and awaiting tailoring as blankets and clothing required pre-shrinking. The Gaels way to make the cloth ready for home use was to wet it, beat it and make a time of it while communally singing choral songs in rhythm during the milling frolic. Come and join us at the table for songs and friendly conversation at the Highland Village milling frolic.

Saturday, September 6 - Pioneer Day
This afternoon festival of rural life is for the entire family. See demonstrations of flax processing, candle and soap making, and play horseshoes. Watch the Cash Carding Mill demonstrations, treadle sewing, and a spinning frolic, fiddling, piping, Gaelic singing, step dancing, a céilidh, corn boil, and a whole lot more. In addition, there will be a textile exhibit on display in the Malagawatch Church. Regular admission rates apply. (Noon-5pm) 

Saturday September 6 - Ag Éirigh air Puirt (Risin’ on the Tunes),

Nova Scotia Highland Village is holding the second annual Scotch Music Series this September. West Bay fiddler Shelly Campbell will provide instruction on Cape Breton bowing techniques. A Gaelic teacher with Whycocomagh Education Centre, and popular dance player, Shelly draws from the influences of Southern Inverness County notables to inform her own fiddling style.  Fiddle learners are encouraged to attend this session on Scotch music bowing techniques as part of Highland Village’s annual Pioneer Day.

Monday, September 29 - Là Fhèill Mìcheil/St. Michael's Day
St. Michael was the Scottish and Irish patron saint of horses, travel, sea and seafarers. His calendar day was celebrated in the Hebrides with eating of a multigrain bonnach called struan. Join us for a special St. Michael’s Day Milling Frolic in the Centre Chimney House. Traditional tea and struan will be served. General admission fees apply (2 to 4 pm).
